I know what you’re thinking…red and green plaids for Christmas, classic tartan plaid skirts that remind you of high school and somber plaids for the conservative banker look! If you were expecting this post to be old school, think again!
Plaid is a new modern and one of the hottest looks around for fall. Designers have rebranded plaid and we are seeing it pop up on the runways and in unexpected ways for home décor.
The key to the new plaid is how and where it is used. We especially love plaids in shades of black and white, blues and grays which mix well with a variety of decors. Plaids are showing up unexpectedly on mid-century benches, classic Parsons desks and Eames-style chairs. Plaids give a classic twist and bring warmth to even the most modern interiors.
On Madison has compiled some of our fave plaid looks for Fall that have us channeling our inner banker gone wild!

Summertime….pool parties, cocktails, and looking effortlessly chic!
Elizabeth Taylor and assorted jet-setters wore them all the time, Yves St. Laurent re-interpreted them in haute couture, and Halston made them famous in the 70’s and 80’s. Nothing says rich Bohemian elite better than putting on a caftan.
The caftan is the go-to summer garb for whatever shindig you’re attending this summer. Long, flowing, body-forgiving, the caftan is one warm weather staple that doesn’t require baring too much skin. So if you’re feeling your beach body isn’t quite perfect, the caftan is a glamorous and sexy answer to summertime dressing. A pair of chandelier earrings and great sandals is all you need to complete the look.
On Madison is getting ready to go on vacation, and you’d better believe we’re tucking in a caftan into our suitcase! We’ve assembled an assortment of caftan looks that will have you channeling your inner Boho!

This season has been non-stop for us. Between the historical recognition we received for the restoration of our beautiful building to high school graduations, family gatherings, and summer steadily approaching, we haven’t had a moment to breathe!
We have, however, come up with some long weekend inspiration for you, as shown in the collage below. Showcasing red, white, and blue, we think these items and interiors capture the beachy weekends, pool parties, and summer soirees in your near future. Think crisp white, natural woven textures, eyelets and crochet. They’re a modern twist on Americana, and eternally classic.
We are happy and thankful for so many things to celebrate this time of year. Enjoy the long weekend and happy Memorial Day to all!
