Our Spanish Crush on Serge Castella

Every so often, I come across a designer who makes my heart beat just a little bit faster.  My response is usually to a space that manages to hit all the levels of classic and modern design mixed with edginess and timelessness rolled into one.

Spanish-CrushMy latest heartthrob is Spanish designer Serge Castella. One goes to Mr.Castella’s bio and it simply lists some of his favorite things: Jean Michel Frank, Diego Giacometti, Yves Klein, Yves St.Laurent and carrot cake. Works for me. Mr. Castella’s work is featured in this month’s issue of Milieu and while the entire home is beautiful, it is the dining room, done in shades of sublime violet, that mesmerizes me.

Damien Langlois-Meurinne

I recently discovered the marvelous work of French designer Damien Langlois-Meurinne.  Monsieur Langlois-Meurinne began his career working in the atelier of Christian Liagre.  He later moved to the German fabric house of Zimmer & Rohde where he was hired to create an in-house furniture collection.  In 2003 he opened his own design firm Agence D.L.M. and later opened a showroom in the Marais district of Paris to showcase his extraordinary line of furnishings, lighting and accessories.  Although his interiors are pretty wonderful, it is his “Actualites” that would  turn any room into a statement.

Here are some favorites.

I will be dreaming about his pieces for some time to come.

Rafael de Cardenas

Rafael-de-Cardenas-2

I hate to be a namedropper, but I’m loving the London apartment designed by Rafael de Cardenas in this month’s issue of Architectual Digest.

He uses many of my favorite designers in the many vintage and custom pieces showcased. From the very chic Pierre Cardin table in the entry hall to the Herve van der Straeten stacked console paired with vintage Gilbert Rohde chairs and a Tommi Parzinger daybed (I’m proud to say I own one),  it’s always about the mix.

Rafael-de-Cardenas-1The gorgeous Karl Springer parchment dining table paired with vintage Grosfield House chairs shows why integrating choice vintage pieces in a space delivers a very couture interior indeed.
