Jacques Jarrige

I’m not exactly sure what it is about the French that causes them to possess such a natural sense of style but I find myself continually drawn to much of their work.  Such is the case with the furniture of Jacques Jarrige.  I’m calling it furniture, but, of course, it is art in every respect.  Working in metals, glass, and even humble MDF, Monsiuer Jarrige, bends them all to his fantasy.  His work has a lyrical and even whimsical quality, but the effect of his pieces, seen below in the apartment decorated for the  Evelyn Lauder Holiday House, carries serious chic.

No wonder I’m an insomniac.  I’m too busy dreaming about  all the beautiful things in my fantasy livingroom.

Our Spanish Crush on Serge Castella

Every so often, I come across a designer who makes my heart beat just a little bit faster.  My response is usually to a space that manages to hit all the levels of classic and modern design mixed with edginess and timelessness rolled into one.

Spanish-CrushMy latest heartthrob is Spanish designer Serge Castella. One goes to Mr.Castella’s bio and it simply lists some of his favorite things: Jean Michel Frank, Diego Giacometti, Yves Klein, Yves St.Laurent and carrot cake. Works for me. Mr. Castella’s work is featured in this month’s issue of Milieu and while the entire home is beautiful, it is the dining room, done in shades of sublime violet, that mesmerizes me.

Glam Lighting

Just as every little black dress needs drop dead earrings and a killer pair of shoes to polish the look, so does a room need those special accessories to bring the sparkle and swank.  For me, nothing quite does the trick like decadent lighting, especially a chandelier.  It is truly  the “jewelry” in the room.
