Shaken, Not Stirred.

Lately we’ve been bringing back the sacred cocktail hour ritual at my house (did it ever leave?) and what better cocktail with which to unwind than the classic martini. There’s something sexy about a martini glass: the way it’s shaped, the way one’s hand gracefully grasps it—-well, it’s downright glamorous. On Madison decided to assemble the perfect accoutrement for making the perfect martini and with Father’s Day just around the corner, we think Dad would love mixing up his martinis in style. And if you’re in search of the perfect Martini recipe follow our Refreshments board on Pinterest where we feature drink ideas, recipes, & inspiration. Cheers!

Rustic Glamour

I love the idea of the ying and yang. Black and white, silver and gold, smooth and rough. There’s something about the combination of polar opposites that creates energy and excitement far greater than using one element alone. The idea of purely rustic décor has never appealed to me much, but mix that rustic element with sophisticated materials such as metals, Lucite, or leather, and you’ve definitely gotten my attention.

I had the opportunity to talk at length with the charming Marina from Monolithvm Furniture yesterday. Handmade in Italy, their line got me thinking about how many of these pieces feel right at home in a beach, mountain, desert or city environment.

On Madison has assembled some of our fave pieces that exemplify the best of rustic chic. Do you have a favorite designer or piece that combines rustic with chic? Let us know in the comments below and we’ll be sure to take a look.

Grand Entrances

Everyone knows that making an entrance is “de rigueur” on the red carpet. Chic women plot every detail necessary to turn heads at important parties and events. But creating the entrance to one’s home is equally important, and choosing the elements can either produce wows or major disappointment.

On Madison is undertaking the restoration of a mid-century post and beam building here in Pasadena and the entrance will be the “honey-stop-the-car!” factor. With that in mind, we have assembled a collage of fabulous mid-century entrances that have us slamming on the breaks.
