Winter Style: Scandinavian Inspired Design

Christmastime always conjures up images of wintery white, silvery accents, and pine boughs. Design inspiration for me demands a type of rustic sophistication. No one does winter white better than the Scandinavians, and despite different labels (Swedish, Gustavian or Nordic) this clean, sophisticated palette is the very definition of winter.

On Madison brings you some of our favorite images to inspire your holiday and winter decorating. A weather chair next to something modern, an arrangement of pine boughs in a primitive basket…a little Scandinavian style will warm even the chilliest winter days.

Happy Holidays.

Ms. Madison Styles: Your Holidays

Tis the season for twinkling lights and the scent of pine; pulling out all our keepsake ornaments out of storage and lighting up the fireplace. As Christmas and New Years draw near we can’t help wanting to deck out our homes to match all the festive feelings these Holidays bring.

We at On Madison love Holiday decorating but we also know how tacky Christmas-time red and green can be when done wrong (think ugly Christmas sweaters). So we’ve compiled a collage to remind you that Christmas doesn’t always have to be all things red and green.

A few suggestions, as pictured below: why not try some metallic neutrals, patterns and textures to bring a bit of modernity into the traditional. They’re festive and luxurious without being loud or obnoxious. Minimal, geometric ornaments done in brass, silver, and gunmetal are a sophisticated twist on regular old glass bulbs, and we just LOVE bringing out blue and white chinoiserie as a key player in Christmas decorating.

We hope the ideas below will inspire you to up your holiday game this year and deck the halls in true On Madison fashion. Cheers!

Most Coveted: Christmas Gifts for Her

We did the pets, we did the men, and now last but certainly not least, it’s time for her! If you’re still looking for the perfect gift for your misses, best friend, sister, or any loved one, On Madison is sure these picks will have you on her favorites list for good. And hurry, you’ve got T-10 days left to shop!

 Christmas Gifts for Her

Get away from the cliché Christmas red & green with these beautifully chic Estrellas stockings from The Citizenry. Handcrafted in Peru by master artisans, they are sure to be an eye-catcher on her mantle. Don’t forget to fill them up with all her favorite chocolates and other goodies.

Gorgeous, sculptural, and functional, these ceramic containers made by Julie Bonde are works of art in their own right. She can store her favorite baubles, sweet treats, or even her keys and other necessities.

Who wouldn’t love this grey-blue python iPhone case from Barney’s New York? It goes with any outfit and it never goes out of style, just like her.

A woman loves all things warm and fuzzy. We adore the milk chocolately shade of this perfectly luxurious New Zealand sheepskin from Jenni Kayne and know she will too.

If she’s a lover of words, she will love this collection of Classic & Romantic poetry from Juniper Books. Not to mention how chic they’d look on a bookshelf or in her living room!

Let her ring in the Yuletide with this fun pair of Yulie Furry Mules from Loéil. Featuring a brown shearling base and faux rabbit fur trim, she will love the attention this cute pair will bring.

And if she’s a pro in the kitchen, she’ll appreciate Anthony Bourdain’s new cookbook Appetites. Chronicling his journey as cook, father, and world traveler, he’s included all his personal favorites and recipes he’s collected from travels near and far. We’re sure it will give her inspiration on what to serve at her next dinner party (and where in the world she’d like to visit and eat in 2017!)
