Ghoulish Chic

October is here, so it’s time to start decorating your front door with ghouls and ghosts, devils and zombies and even a pumpkin or two. But who knew that the macabre could be chic as well? Designers have been incorporating skulls, body parts, insects and spikey “things” and giving them serious glam by casting them in such things as bronze, nickel, bathing them in gold plate and dusting them with semi-precious stones. The results are objects that are anything but ghoulish. We’d say they’re devilishly stylish additions to any room!

Cool Hunting

Part of the fun (and sometimes the drudgery) of having a retail store, is sourcing new, interesting and design savvy merchandise that you and everyone else haven’t seen before.  Easier said than done.  So I get really excited when I stumble across a product line that meets my criteria for cool.  It’s quite simple really…If I haven’t seen it before and I really love it and most of all, I would have it in my house, then write up that order.  Such is the case with Neo, hand crocheted baskets, designed and made by Rossana Contadini, out of Neoprene yarn in a variety of colors.  If you insist, they could certainly be functional, but I rather like the idea of simply displaying them for the beautiful objects that they are.

Mirror, Mirror

Nothing is quite as magical as a beautiful reflection seen when gazing into a mirror. Especially when the mirror is as spectacular as some of the mirrors shown here. Mirrors bring light to a room. They can make a room appear larger. They can bring a bit of mystery.  But mostly they bring drama.  Whether one large mirror or many small mirrors grouped for dramatic effect, it seems we never tire of looking into them.

The fact that Herve van der Straaten formerly designed jewelry is not lost on the jewel-like mirrors that have become important pieces of functional art.

Codor is producing a line of hand-made mirrors that bring to mind the fanciful creations of the late set-designer turned interior decorator Toni Duquette. Flora, fauna, feathers, shells, and a host of other natural curiosities go into each creation resulting in show-stopping mirrors that will be the center of attention in any room.
