2017 Spring Break Destinations

Now that the weather is warm, the sun is shining, and flowers are in bloom, we’re thinking Spring here at On Madison–or more specifically, Spring Break and all of the beautiful places we could be jet-setting off to. Below we’ve rounded up a few destinations not only beautiful but also perfect for design lovers. Whether it’s architecture or natural wonders you seek while you’re on vacation, all these locations have those and much more.

SARDINIA, ITALY | L’AGNATA DI DE Andrè

Sardinia, the second largest city in the Mediterranean, is known for it’s rocky coastline and beautiful stretches of ocean views. Enjoy its ancient ruins and stunning beaches. We suggest staying at L’Agnata di De Andre, a secluded estate owned by an Italian singer/songwriter/poet and his wife. L’Agnata is 150 acres of sprawling woodland, pastures, and a working farmhouse. Tucked away, this destination is for those that want to escape tourists and city-life and enjoy the old-world countryside.

Barcelona, Spain | Hotel Praktik Rambla

It’s no wonder Spain topped the list of 52 Places to Go in 2016, every single corner is filled with an architectural or cultural marvel. See Antoni Gaudí’s throughout the city and visit Casa Vicens, his first major work which was built as a summer home for a broker in 1885. Casa Vicens was restored last year and was adapted into a public space as a museum and cultural site. We suggest staying at the ultra chic Praktik Rambla boutique hotel located in the heart of the city. Featuring a juxtaposition of avant-garde rooms in a historic building, the architecture and interior showcase the talents of interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán and is truly the perfect place to stay for any design aficionado.

Koh Samui, Thailand | Panacea Retreat

The second largest island in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui is a sanctuary of coconut groves and lush jungles. Full of luxury resorts and spas, it’s the ultimate relaxation destination. We suggest the Panacea Retreat, with its panoramic views and five private villas to get a bespoke vacation experience. Whether it’s food, yoga, sports, or simply lounging by the pool, they handcraft your experience so you can take a Thai cooking class with their chef, try Muy Thai boxing, do some yoga or pilates, or enjoy their private gardens.

Canyon Point, Utah | The Amangiri

Sure, not all destinations have to be far away to be exotic. We couldn’t forget featuring a getaway right here in the states. Canyon Point in Utah boasts an incredible desertscape of dramatic rock facings, beautiful coral sand dunes, and a luxury resort hidden among the cliffs. The Amangiri wow’d us with its minimal, modern design set inside the wild and rocky backdrop of the desert. Enjoy the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon, and other natural wonders, all close by, while retreating to this gorgeous resort that boasts clean modern architectural details with incredible desert views.

Palm Springs Modernism

As some of you might know, this past February On Madison participated in our very first Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale.

Along with 85 other premiere national and international exhibitors, the Modernism show and sale is an annual affair that boasts a large collection of vintage furnishings, fine art, lighting, sculpture, and more. It was definitely no easy feat as we had to truck over a boat load of On Madison furnishings and accessories from Pasadena all the way down to sunny Palm Springs. Of course first we set ourselves up at the gorgeous L’Horizon Resort Palm Springs:

Once everything was in order, we waited our turn to off-load all our items from the truck into the Palm Springs Convention Center. Then it was straight to work, setting up our 20’x24′ booth in time for the preview gala & cocktail party that Friday evening.

We were very happy with the results! For those of you who were unable to attend the show, here are a few behind the scenes shots from our booth, Space 804:

The show ran for the entire weekend, from Saturday-Monday February 17-19 and we enjoyed mingling with guests and fellow exhibitors and meeting so many new faces.

Special thanks to In Collect for the photographs of the festivities and for capturing a few images of our beautiful booth:

The crowd gathering for the show preview and cocktail party gala:

On Madison’s space at the show, filled with modern and mid-century furnishings and fine art.

And a few exclusive On Madison pieces we showcased at the sale, which are all available now on 1st Dibs:

Mountain Chic

I have to come clean. So many of our blogposts are inspired by real life design situations. If we happen to be looking for lighting for a project, then we’re inspired to do a post about cool lighting. The inspiration for this particular blogpost comes from the house my husband and I just purchased near Aspen, Colorado.

Growing up in Denver, it’s been my husband’s dream to have a place in Aspen, and after being two 30-year overnight successes, we finally achieved that dream. Of course, my mind is racing thinking about how to furnish and decorate our new getaway. No cutesy reindeer pillows, vintage snowshoes, or trophy trout for me! The goal is to create a modern, sophisticated, yet comfortable, home that defies all clichés about what a mountain home should be.

On Madison has put together a pictorial of images that exemplify what our idea of mountain chic is all about. We’re dreaming about après ski already!
