Downtown Modern: Los Angeles

IMG_2172

Something very groovy is happening in Downtown Los Angeles. Momentum has been building over the last decade and it’s suddenly become very hip to live, work and play downtown. The Arts District has become synonymous with cool new cafes, bars, shopping, and of course, art galleries. The Frank Gehry designed Disney Concert Hall was an announcement that L.A.’s architecture is world class.

The latest reason to visit downtown is The Broad, a museum devoted to contemporary art which opened late last year. The Broad is the most recent edition in the attempt to revitalize downtown L.A.’s sleepy Grand Avenue. And it does just that. The building itself is striking with its white honeycomb-like exterior. Inside, the building’s sleek design is the perfect foil for The Broad’s incredible collection of modern masterpieces.

On Madison presents our slideshow of favorites among The Broad’s permanent collection.

Naturally, all that fabulousness worked up an appetite so we made sure to stop at the new and highly acclaimed Otium Restaurant located right next door to The Broad. Great food with a casual, sophisticated design focus. Grab your significant other and make a downtown date ASAP.

Design Destination: New Orleans

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who didn’t love New Orleans. There’s the food (of course), the jazz, and the French Quarter. But what makes New Orleans really special is that it’s just magical. The magic comes from an irresistible fusion of cultures and a style all its own. African, Latin, and European vibes all come together to create an ambiance that simply can’t be found anywhere else.

On Madison recently visited the Big Easy and we’re sharing some design worthy images that we think will have you packing your bags.NOLA

Happy Holidays: New York Style

There’s nothing quite like Christmas time in New York. With holiday lights and decorations filling every window and street corner, if you can’t get into the holiday spirit in New York, there’s no help for you.

On Madison just returned from a few days in that fabulous city and we’ve put together some images that will hopefully put you in the holiday spirit, New York style!

SAKS window display

The Christmas window displays at Bergdorf Goodman, Barney’s and Sak’s are legendary. These images from the Sak’s window, will have dreams of the chicest of sugarplum fairies dancing in your head.

Rockefeller Center

It’s impossible to tire of the sight of the Christmas Tree with Rockefeller Center in the background. Twinkle lights seem to create fantastic sculptures out of the barren trees on Park Avenue.

Of course, On Madison couldn’t resist snapping photos of the black & white graffiti inspired mannequins in the window of the Josie Natori shop in Nolita.natori2 natori And the stark black and white graphics of the Moncler window make a stylish wintery statement.
