Union Station’s final Cocoa Concert  | Friday, December 23rd (6pm-10pm)

Union Station has long been overlooked by locals so they’ve recently begun hosting numerous events from free music to film noir movie screenings of movies actually filmed inside the historical building, to the Cocoa Concert Series (yes, as in free hot cocoa) within the station. Tonight you can enjoy the sizzling sounds of live salsa music and dance lessons with La Picante, a “Naughty or Nice” photo booth, and of course Santa will be roaming around for free “Selfies with Santa”. Elves will be handing out endless free hot chocolate, so grab your ugliest Christmas sweater (yes, there will be a contest as well) and hop on the Gold line to join in the festivities. Head on over to their website or Instagram for the latest news and events happening at Union Station.

A Christmas Day Feast at Georgie | Sunday, December 25th (12pm-9pm)

This Sunday, Georgie restaurant at the five star Montage hotel in Beverly Hills will be hosting an all-day-fete from noon to 9pm (!) that sounds like it’d be a wonderful holiday gift for any food lover. Featuring rolling champagne cocktail carts, traditional Christmas and Hanukah favorites, savory and sweet items from brunch to dinner, and hot chocolate with festive toppings for each table, it sounds like a treat especially for those that aren’t looking forward to doing the dishes and cleaning the silver for Christmas. Not to mention how gorgeous the Montage looks all decked out for the holidays. And the interior of Georgie, ooh la la! There will definitely be a lot of Instagram-worthy moments if you’re joining Georgie for their Christmas Day feast. See more of their beautiful restaurant and food on their Instagram here.

Whether it’s Christmas, Hanukah, or Kwanzaa that you celebrate, we’re wishing you the best from all of us at On Madison.

Ms. Madison Styles Your Weekend: November 4th

Another week, another edition of Ms. Madison styles. This week, we have a bevy of events for the art lovers out there, as well as a new restaurant suggestion in nearby Echo Park. It’s going to be tough to decide which of these activities to do this weekend—if you’re feeling ambitious, check them all out! And if not there’s plenty of time to see some of these exhibitions later on as they’ll be running for a few weeks. Let’s get started:

Thinkspace “NEXUS” and “In a Dream” opening reception at the Brand Library, Saturday Nov. 5, 2016. (6pm-10pm). Show running November 5, 2016 – January 7, 2017

Not one, but two art shows curated by Thinkspace Gallery will be opening this Saturday at the beautiful Brand Library. Formerly the El Miradero estate of American real estate developer Leslie C. Brand, this 1904 mansion was left to the city when he passed away upon the request that it become a public library and park. A huge restoration went underway in 2012 by Gruen Associates which included the addition of an art annex where this weekend’s shows will be taking place. If not for the art, come to explore the incredible history of this hidden gem many locals aren’t even aware of. Take a sneak peek at some of the artwork on the Thinkspace Instagram and stay tuned with upcoming events at the Brand Library here.

Beyond Bling: Jewelry from the Lois Boardman Collection at LACMA. Show running October 2, 2016 – February 5, 2017.lacma-beyond-bling

Featuring 50 of the over 3000 pieces Lois and Bob Boardman’s gifted LACMA from their international and contemporary jewelry collection, Beyond Bling will have you rethinking the notion of the Tiffany’s necklaces and pearl earrings of yesteryear. Each piece chosen for Beyond Bling showcases the unique medium of jewelry, exploring non-traditional materials, techniques, and the jewelry as a mechanism for personal and/or political art. A few of the items from the collection are shown above, and yes those are LEGOS! See it on display now until February 2017.

Elf Café, 2135 Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90026. Open Monday-Saturday 6pm-11pm.

Ms. Madison Styles Your Weekend: October 28th

It’s almost Hallo-weekend and we’ve got a list of thrilling things to do in and around town. Here are some spooky (and not-so-spooky) options to fill your weekend with:

Guillermo Del Toro: At Home with Monsters August 1-November 22, 2016

At Home With Monsters: LACMA

In conjunction with the holiday, we recommend the Guillermo Del Toro: At Home with Monsters exhibition currently on view at LACMA to fulfill your monster hunting quota for the weekend.

Mexican born director Guillermo Del Toro (of Crimson Peak, Pacific Rim, & Hellboy fame) has his first museum retrospective displaying his vast collection of media (paintings, drawings, sculptures, personal notebooks, and much more) that illustrate his interest in the fantasy worlds he’s famous for creating on the big screen. On Madison saw the exhibit a few weeks ago; see above for a sneak peek of what you can expect.

grandavearts
