Victoria Hagen’s Apartment

Well, just as I have been agonizing over the elements in the re-do of my diningroom, along comes the most recent issue of Veranda with Victoria Hagen’s über glam Deco Apartment in New York. The silvery platinum finishes in the diningroom, the Macassar ebony table, parchment front sideboard is to die for. I think I’m ready for my close-up now.

Jean-Louis Deniot

I’m not a woman usually given to swooning easily over anything or anyone, but I am positively breathless over the French designer Jean Louis Deniot.

This guy is seriously chic.  His Paris apartment, featured in this month’s issue of Elle Decor is a case in point.  Refined, restrained and rarified, Deniot manages to combine the essence of what is quintessentially French with the modern edge that defines his style as of the moment.  C’est magnifique!

Born Modern- The Life and Design of Alvin Lustig

From time to time, I must comment on aspects of pure design inspiration. I had never heard of Alvin Lustig before an artist friend of mine showed me a book on his life and design. Largely self-taught, Lustig became a leader in graphic design especially as it applied to advertising and marketing. He also designed the book covers for countless literary figures of the time.

I confess that his work has inspired me to incorporate ideas of his into my own design work.
